We believe that private instruction is the best way for anyone to learn to play an instrument. One-on-one instruction provides students with instruction most suitable for their individual needs. Students can learn the style of music in which their interests lie. Teachers can focus 100% of their attention on each student, to ensure techniques and concepts are learned correctly, at a pace conducive to the individual student's ability. We offer 30 minute, 45 minute, and 60 minute lessons, teaching students of all ages, from beginners to advanced.
We have many students who take voice lessons at Dixon Music Studio. Students learn to sing a variety of music, from pop and Broadway, to classical and folk. 10 years old is recommended as the youngest age for voice lessons. Due to the physical nature of voice lessons, young children are generally not yet ready for the demands of private instruction. For children younger than 10, we recommend the Children's Choir class.
Dixon Music Studio offers drum lessons on both snare and drum kit in a variety of music styles. The recommended age for starting drum lessons is 9 years old; students wanting to learn drum kit need to be able to reach both the pedal and the high hat. Drum lessons are taught on a drum kit in our studio, but students can get started practicing at home on practice pads before purchasing or renting a drum kit.
Guitar lessons available at Dixon Music Studio include acoustic, electric, bass guitar, and ukelele. Instruction is available in a variety of styles, from country and folk, to pop and rock. Students learn about tablature, chording, and note reading through music styles of their interest. 8 years old is the earliest we recommend for guitar lessons; the physical demands on the fingers and hands can be uncomfortable for younger students. Children as young as 6 years old may take guitar lessons on a nylon-stringed "junior-sized" instrument. Students generally do not take bass lessons until at least 10 years of age. Ukelele lessons are available ages 6 years and older.
Our studio offers piano and keyboard lessons to students of all ages, beginners to advanced. Instruction is provided in a variety of music styles, from classical and folk, to pop and jazz. At our studio, 7 years old is usually the youngest age that we start children in private lessons. At this age, students have longer attention spans and have an easier time with retaining material. Children as young as 4 may start piano lessons; however, in such a case, the parent needs to be actively involved in the child's practice at home. Be aware that, at this young an age, the lesson time will also include games and singing.
